Overview

At Tender Palm Hospital, we will help those patients who suffer from sports injuries to return to their lives safely and as soon as possible using specially designed comprehensive programs.

The full spectrum of athletic injuries in children and adults is treated by the department of arthroscopy and sports injuries at Tender Palm Hospital, professional as well as recreational athletes. All major sports procedures and surgeries, such as arthroscopic knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle surgeries, are carried out. Our surgeons also conduct the most recently developed meniscal, cartilage, and ligament reconstruction procedures.

Arthroscopy:

It is a minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment procedure for the conditions of a joint. Most arthroscopic surgeries are done on an outpatient basis; patients could go home within a day post-surgery. The majority of patients resume daily activities and return to work or school within a few days. Sportsmen and others in good health will be able to resume their athletic performances within a few weeks with our Nova surgeons' care.

Arthroscopy and Sports Injury Treatment Services:

  • Arthroscopy: A camera called arthroscope is placed inside the joint to look inside the joint. It is a very handy instrument that assists surgeons in viewing, diagnosing, and treating joint problems. Using the camera, pictures are projected onto the TV screen and small surgical instruments are manipulated by the surgeon to carry out the arthroscopic surgery. Very small incisions are employed in comparison with bigger incisions used for open surgery.
  • Adhesive capsulitis arthroscopic surgery: Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis disease (due to inflammation and contraction of connective tissue surrounding the glenohumeral joint) can be treated effectively through minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.
  • Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction: ACL anterior cruciate ligament one of the four cardinal ligaments that stabilizes the knee; when it gets torn, then arthroscopic technique is used during ACL reconstruction surgery to reconstruct the same.
  • Arthroscopic Arthrodesis: An arthrodesis is the fusion of the bones of a joint to make it one continuous bone. It can be done arthroscopically with minimal invasion and results are very good. This includes pins, plates, screws, and rods to hold the bones in position for fusion to take place. This surgery converts a painful joint into a stiff painless joint.
  • Arthroscopic Bankart Repair:Bankart lesion refers to the loosening of labrum from its bony attachment at the glenoid rim of the shoulder. Arthroscopic surgery involves stitching back of torn tissue to the rim of the socket for effective treatment.
  • Arthroscopic Debridement: Arthroscopic debridement is a minimally invasive surgery that accesses the joint and bone spurs, redundant cartilage, and any inflamed tissue. These loose fragments cause impingement and the instability of the joint causes pain and discomfort to the patient.
  • Arthroscopic Meniscectomy: The meniscus acts as a cushion in the knee joint. Sudden twisting or turning of the knee with the foot planted can lead to a tear in the meniscus. An arthroscopic meniscectomy is performed via an arthroscope where the torn meniscus is excised to resolve the condition. The rest of the knee is also visualized to identify any other conditions existing simultaneously with the meniscal tear.
  • Elbow pain that doesn't subside with the standard treatment may require elbow arthroscopy. Effective use of elbow arthroscopy can be made to remove loose fragments of cartilage, bone, or scar tissue, which may be restricting normal movement at the elbow.
  • Hip Arthroscopy: Hip arthroscopy is also suggested to those patients whose hip pains do not improve due to conservative treatment. For example, here in this procedure, the diagnosis is reached and solved accurately at the time of the procedure itself. More importantly, huge benefits can be acquired by the patients suffering from hip dysplasia, hip joint infection, FAI, snapping hip syndrome synovitis, and loose bony fragments.

Sports Injuries

  • Achilles tendinitis Treatment: Overuse causes inflammation of calf muscles at the back of the leg to the heel and proper treatment helps in quick resolution.
  • ACL Injuries: ACL provides rotational stability to the knee and sudden stops during sports can cause damage to it. Proper technique training with the help of proper physical therapy management is very important.
  • FAI Syndrome: The friction on the hip joint becomes too much and this is called femoroacetabular impingement. Arthroscopy might have to be done for rectification.
  • Golfers elbow : Not only golfers but also those who repeat the motions with hands, wrists or forearms like in games of throwing sports, bowling, baseball, raking, and hammering also suffer from it. Their management under expert care gives them sufficient relief.
  • Jumpers Knee: It is an overuse injury causing inflammation of patellar tendon and has to be attended to in time.
  • Mallet finger: With injuries like striking of ball, the extensor tendon can get damaged and the finger thereafter will not straighten out. This condition is also known as baseball finger. This may mostly be treated without surgery if done under proper care.
  • Runners Knee: The most common cause of knee pain and treatment is planned under expert guidance.
  • Rotator Cuff tears: Rotator cuff helps with stabilization of the shoulder joint. Repetitive overhead motions related to sports or occupation can lead to rotator cuff injury/tear which can be pretty painful.
  • SLAP Tears: Athletes involved in high-intensive quick movements over the top of the shoulder are significantly at a great risk of being able to severely injure/tear the labrum, such as volleyball players and baseball pitchers. Such injuries might be managed under expert and return to play is planned accordingly.
  • Sports Hernia: This is the condition which affects pubic joint leading to chronic groin pain, that worsens with coughing and sneezing. It may even cause disabling pain and expert orthopedic can design the treatment plan.
  • Turf Toe: This is the sprain of the big toe affecting football players, needs careful examination and treatment accordingly.
  • Tennis elbow: Tennis elbow is a condition that affects people whose occupation involves repetitive motion of the elbow, such as the tennis player, painter, cook, plumber, and carpenter.
