Paralyzed Patient from Bihar Walks Again After Advanced Spine Surgery

Mr. Harendra Narayan Singh, a patient from Chhapra, Bihar, has shown recovery from near-total paralysis, thanks to the timely intervention of the neurosurgery team at Tender Palm Hospital, Lucknow.

His son, Mr. Rakesh Kumar Singh, shared that the problem started a year ago with numbness and tingling in the hands. “Gradually, my father lost the ability to use his hands, and over time, even his legs stopped working. I consulted multiple doctors in Bihar, Patna, and even BHU. At AIIMS Delhi, they got an appointment for a year later, which was too far away,” he recalled.

Eventually, a relative from Gorakhpur recommended Dr. Prarthana Saxena, a senior and highly experienced neurosurgeon in Lucknow, known for treating complex spine and brain conditions. Without delay, the family visited Tender Palm Super Speciality Hospital, where advanced diagnostic tests including MRI confirmed severe cervical spinal cord compression—a condition known as cervical myelopathy.

“This condition occurs when the spinal cord in the neck region is compressed, leading to progressive weakness in both the arms and legs. If not treated on time, it can result in permanent paralysis,” explained Dr. Prarthana Saxena.

Understanding the urgency, Dr. Prarthana performed a highly specialized Open-Door Laminoplasty. This modern spinal decompression surgery relieves pressure on the spinal cord by creating space around it. It is especially effective for patients with multilevel cervical stenosis and neurological symptoms.

The results were visible within days.

“Before surgery, my father couldn’t lift his limbs or sit without support. Now, he can move his legs and sit up on his own,” said Rakesh Kumar Singh with visible relief. “We are so thankful to Dr. Prarthana, the physiotherapy team, and all the medical staff at Tender Palm Hospital for their exceptional care.”

Dr. Prarthana added, “With advanced spinal surgery techniques, we can help even patients who come to us in late stages. Early diagnosis is ideal, but even in delayed cases, recovery is possible with expert treatment and rehabilitation.”

Today, Mr. Harendra Narayan Singh is on the road to recovery, undergoing structured physiotherapy under the hospital’s rehabilitation program and consistently improving.

Tender Palm Hospital is fast becoming a leading center for spinal surgery in Lucknow. It focuses on neurosurgery, orthopedic spine care, and rehabilitation. The hospital has advanced technology and a team of skilled doctors. It treats paralysis, spinal cord compression, slipped discs, cervical spondylosis, and brain disorders.
