Tongue Cancer Success Story: Stage 2 Oral Cancer Treatment in Lucknow, India

Anil Kumar, a 32-year-old resident of Kabirpur, noticed a persistent ulcer on his tongue that did not heal for nearly three to four months. Initially, he sought treatment at other hospitals, but despite multiple consultations, his condition did not improve.

As the pain and discomfort continued, he visited Tender Palm Super Speciality Hospital in Lucknow, where he consulted Dr. Narendra Krishna Yadav, Senior Surgical Oncologist.

After a detailed clinical examination, Dr. Narendra Krishna Yadav found a suspicious lesion on Anil’s tongue. A biopsy was immediately performed, and the laboratory report confirmed Stage 2 Tongue Cancer (Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma).

Further investigations also revealed that the cancer had spread to one of the lymph nodes in his neck, making timely treatment even more important.

Following complete staging and evaluation, Anil underwent successful tongue cancer surgery on 26 June.

The surgical team performed:

  • Wide Local Excision of the tongue tumor with a safe 1 cm surgical margin
  • Neck Lymph Node Dissection to remove affected lymph nodes
  • Comprehensive pathological evaluation
  • Post-operative Radiation Therapy because the neck lymph node tested positive for cancer cells

The treatment plan was carefully designed to completely remove the cancer while preserving Anil’s speech and tongue function as much as possible.

Today, Anil has recovered well and has returned to his daily routine and work.

His speech remains clear, he is able to eat and communicate comfortably, and there is no difficulty in performing his normal activities.

Sharing his experience, Anil says:

“I had tongue cancer and visited several hospitals, but I didn’t get relief. Then I came to Tender Palm Hospital and met Dr. Narendra Krishna Yadav. After the surgery, I recovered well. Today I am back to work, and the doctors and hospital staff took excellent care of me.”

According to Dr. Narendra Krishna Yadav, gutkha and tobacco consumption remain one of the leading causes of tongue and oral cancer that not only directly damages the oral tissues but also causes continuous irritation, especially when sharp teeth repeatedly rub against the tongue. Over time, this irritation may develop into a non-healing ulcer that can eventually become cancerous.
