OPHTHALMOLOGY

Our team has been key in multiple eye care milestones. For example, we performed the first stem cell-derived transplant of retinal cells (cells that help you see) to treat legally blind patients. Patients in our program continue to have access to leading-edge, research-based treatment options.

Center for Community Outreach and Policy

Our specialists are experts in diagnosis, treatment and management of all conditions that affect the eyes, including pediatric vision concerns. Common conditions we treat include:

  1. Astigmatism: An imperfect curving of your eye that causes blurry vision.
  2. Blepharitis: Eyelid inflammation that can lead to dry eyes, redness or swelling.
  3. Cataracts: When proteins build up in your eye and cause cloudy or fuzzy vision.
  4. Conjunctivitis (pinkeye): Inflammation or infection in your eye that causes itching, redness and crusting around the eye.
  5. Myopia (nearsightedness): A common vision condition in which you can focus on close objects but not on objects that are far away.
Treatments ophthalmologists offer

Our goal is to find the best, most effective treatment options for eye conditions. We provide a range of nonsurgical and surgical treatments.

Nonsurgical treatments

Our specialists care for both routine and complex eye conditions. Nonsurgical treatments we offer include:

  1. Anti-glare glasses: Devices designed to improve vision while reducing eye strain.
  2. Artificial tears: Eyedrops that improve lubrication and moisture on your eye’s surface.
  3. Contact lenses: Thin devices placed directly over your eye’s surface to improve vision.
  4. Eye drops: Drops that contain saline and medication such as steroids or antihistamines.
  5. Eye patches: A device made of cloth, plastic or an adhesive bandage that covers the eye.
  6. Warm compresses for your eyes: Applying a clean, warm cloth over your eyes to relieve swelling, pain or inflammation.
Surgical treatments

We offer research-based, advanced surgical treatments for a range of eye conditions. Common surgeries include.
