Overview

The glenohumeral joint is a ball-and-socket joint between the upper arm bone and shoulder blade. It is the most mobile joint in the human body, wherein a wide range of movement takes place, such as reaching, throwing, and swinging.

Shoulder conditions that are diagnosed and treated by experienced orthopedic surgeons from the Tender Palm Hospital are endless. Some of the most common include:

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries: This is a condition that involves an injury to the group of muscles and tendons that help stabilize the shoulder joint. The injuries to this area cause pain, weakness, as well as limits to range of motion.
  • Shoulder Dislocations: This is characterized by the slipping out of the head of the humerus from the socket of the scapula. There may be cases of severe pain and instability.
  • Frozen Shoulder: Stiffness or reduced range of motion of the shoulder accompanied with pain in the shoulder joint makes a patient unable to move the shoulder around without difficulty.
  • Impingement Syndrome: It is a condition where the rotator cuff tendons get wedged between the acromion and the humerus, causing them to be inflamed and painful.
  • Labral Tears: The labrum refers to the ring of cartilage surrounding the glenoid socket. Any tear in the labrum may cause pain, instability, and clicking or popping sensations in the shoulder.
  • Arthritis: Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis affect the shoulders. Those diseases may cause pain and stiffness and reduce your range of motion.
